Starting occupational therapy can feel unfamiliar, particularly if you are managing mental health challenges, neurodivergence, chronic health conditions, or fatigue. This page outlines what occupational therapy with Therapy for Life typically involves, so you can make an informed decision about whether this service is right for you.
Occupational therapy focuses on how people engage in everyday activities and roles, including self-care, work or study, routines, and community participation.
At Therapy for Life, services are individualised and based on assessment, clinical reasoning, and collaboration. There is no single pathway or fixed program — support is tailored to your goals, circumstances, and capacity.
Referrals are accepted for teens and adults under Medicare, NDIS, and private funding, with appointments available in Hobart and via telehealth.

Initial Appointments
Initial appointments focus on understanding how your health, environment, and daily demands are currently affecting your ability to participate in everyday activities.
This may include:
Discussion of current challenges and goals
Review of relevant background information (where available)
Observation of functional strengths and barriers
Identification of priorities for support or assessment
Initial sessions are used to determine whether occupational therapy is appropriate and to plan next steps collaboratively.

Ongoing Sessions
Based on your assessment, we create a personalised OT plan that may include emotional regulation strategies, sensory tools, pacing and planning supports, daily living skill development, executive functioning strategies, and participation-focused goals.

Assessments and Reports
Ongoing occupational therapy sessions are guided by your goals and may involve:
- Developing practical strategies to support daily functioning
- Exploring routines, habits, pacing, and activity demands
- Psychoeducation related to neurodivergence, mental health, or chronic conditions
Trialling environmental or task-based adjustments
- The frequency and duration of sessions vary depending on individual needs, funding arrangements, and capacity.

Working With Other Supports

With consent, Therapy for Life may liaise with:
- GPs and medical specialists
